Another 3D Zip Guy 3D printable action figure. This time, it’s an old classic revisited and updated. Better joints, better sculpt, and an overall better building experience.
Revisiting a Classic
There is something special about going back to an older design and seeing how far you have come as a creator. This build is an updated version of a classic character, redesigned from the ground up to take advantage of everything I have learned about zip-tie articulation over the years.
The goal was simple: keep the iconic look, but make it print better, pose better, and hold up to repeated handling.
What is New in This Build
Compared to the original version, this update brings several major improvements:
- Better Joints: Refined tolerances and improved zip-tie routing for smoother articulation and less friction.
- Better Sculpt: Updated anatomy and cleaner lines that look sharper, especially when printed at smaller layer heights.
- Better Experience: Simplified assembly steps where possible, making the build process more enjoyable and less frustrating.
It is still the same zip-tie system you know and love, just executed with a lot more precision.
Filament Choices: Why I Trust JAYO
Before we get into the build, I want to give a quick shout-out to JAYO Filaments. Their materials, particularly their PLA Plus, have been incredibly reliable for my recent figure projects.
For this build and my ongoing tests, I have been experimenting with a few different materials to see what works best for specific parts:
- Wood PLA: Gives a unique, textured finish that looks great for certain accessories or base elements.
- PLA Plus: My go-to for the main body parts due to its excellent layer adhesion and slight flexibility, which is crucial for zip-tie joints.
- White PETG: Used in combination with other materials for parts that need a bit more durability and a clean, bright finish.
If you are looking for consistent, high-quality filament for your own action figure builds, I highly recommend checking them out.

Help Me Decide: What is Next?
As shown in the video, I have been working on a couple of different figures simultaneously, experimenting with different material combinations and color schemes.
I want to hear from you: Which of these builds should I feature and break down in the next full assembly video?
Drop your vote in the comments on YouTube or tag me on Instagram @3DZipGuy. I read every suggestion and it directly influences what I work on next.
