Chainsaw Man Bomb Devil Build: Zip Gal Engineering Challenges

I’m not a huge anime fan—but when character designs are this wild, I can’t look away. 

This build tackles one of Chainsaw Man’s most visually insane characters: a female figure with a bomb head, explosive-stick apron, and deceptively complex articulation. What looked like a “walk in the park” became one of my most technically demanding Zip Guy projects yet.

The Design Challenge

The design is deceptively simple. A female body wearing shorts and an apron topped with what is basically an American football for a head.

But because the body has such a thin frame, I had to do a bunch of mental gymnastics to make everything fit together. This isn’t like building a bulky male figure where you have plenty of room to work with joints and clearances.

Articulated Apron Engineering

This is the apron I mentioned earlier. I believe these are supposed to be explosive sticks. It would have been easier to model this as a single piece, like a wooden plank, but that wouldn’t be very dynamic.

So I segmented everything and used zip ties as the articulation points. This gives the apron real movement and makes the figure much more poseable, but it added significant complexity to the build.

Introducing Zip Gal

This figure uses the new Zip Gal body. It’s 1/12 scale by default, but you can scale it up like I did here. I increased this one to 185%, which puts it close to 1/6 scale.

The Zip Gal is specifically engineered for female anatomy with a thinner frame, which presents its own set of challenges compared to the standard Zip Guy body.

Zip Tie Specifications

If you’re planning to build this, make sure you have the right zip ties before you start printing:

For 1/6 Scale (185%):

• 5mm wide head x 200mm length
• 8mm wide head x 300mm length

For Default 1/12 Scale:

• 3mm wide head x 100-150mm length
• 4mm wide head x 100-150mm length

Make sure you can source the correct zip tie sizes before attempting to print any of my models. Joint integrity depends on getting the head width and length exactly right.

Material Recommendations

The apron articulation is fragile by nature. I strongly recommend printing in durable PLA+ or PETG. Avoid brittle materials that could snap under stress.

For this build, I used JAYO PLA Plus for the main body parts. It has the strength and flexibility needed for the thin-frame anatomy.

Detail Work: The Wicks

I just happen to have a spool of fishing line lying around, so I’m using it for the wicks on her arms. But feel free to use whatever you have on hand—string, pieces of filament, or even strands of hot glue. Whatever works for you.

Scaling Considerations

If you plan to scale this up, test-fit at default scale first before going bigger. Clearance issues compound when you increase the size, and what seems like a small tolerance problem at 1/12 scale becomes a major headache at 1/6.
